Cruise Night/5th Annual Day of Thunder Show
5th Annual Day of Thunder Show
Attending:
- John and April Redmon (entered both cars)
- Butch and Jackie Watkins (came by to say hi. Thanks!)
John and April entered Phantom Cruiser and Texas Red. Another Cruiser, not a member of the club, entered in the PT Cruiser category as well, a Cranberry convertible. The Cranberry won First Place, and Phantom Cruiser won Second Place. Texas Red pretends she came in third, even though there was no official award for LAST.
We did win a couple of door prizes though! The show closed up shop early due to rain.

We met at Region 16 at 5:30 p.m. At 6, we cruised to Canyon and ate at Feldman’s Wrong Way Diner. Cruisers shared GREAT photos of our trip to Cruise the Rockies in Red River, and talked about the upcoming Tri-State Fair Parade, which is a tribute to firefighters. Les, our own firefighter, and his wife Joanne have some great ideas. They and Dale Redmon are cooking something up really special for an extra decoration for our entry. We all agreed to meet in front of Furr’s (facing Georgia Street in Wolflin Village) like we did last year, between 8:15 and 8:30. We need to be in our places on the parade route by 9:00 a.m. We will be mixing our theme from last year, patriotic, with the addition of firefighter items. Affordable patriotic items can be found at the party stores in Puckett and Belmar shopping centers, as well as Hobby Lobby and Michaels. If you have patriotic music that you can play in your car stereo as we cruise the parade, all the better. Unfortunately, the guidelines say that airhorns are not permitted, and so is the use of fake or real blood. (!?!) We are also not permitted to throw out candy for the kids. (Bummer!) The parade letter says we won’t be getting our position or our maps until a week before the parade, so as soon as we get it, we will let y’all know our parade position. We are also required to have a banner in front of our entry. Thanks to Dale, we do have a banner, and last year we had some kids who were really excited to carry it. So if anyone has any extra kids or others who wouldn’t mind participating by carrying this banner, please ask them!
We still have one more meeting before the parade on September 9th at Gene Messer at 5:30. Do we want to make a Sonic run, before it gets too cool to do so? I can call ahead and maybe get some coupons…
We’ve had volunteers to make phone calls to the members who haven’t come in awhile, and those who don’t have Internet access to remind them about the parade and the upcoming meeting. I know Felicia will call Ruth, Cathy will be calling a couple of people, and someone mentioned Jackie calling someone, but I can’t remember that part! Jackie, if you are uncomfortable calling someone you haven’t met yet, I bet someone (Dale?) wouldn’t mind calling your person.
Dale mentioned the idea of having a contact at the Chamber of Commerce. As far as I know, we don’t have a contact down there or anyone who has an “in” there. But I know who was down there last…and he got some neat Amarillo pins to give out to our guests. (hint hint. *smile*)
Odds and Ends:
- Do we want to have a Halloween party this year? What are your ideas?
- Also, please think about whether you want the club to enter the Light Parade the first weekend in December too. It’s a lot of fun!
- The registration for next year’s Cruise the Rockies VII in Steamboat Springs, Colorado is ALREADY open at the Colorado Cruisers’ website. Their website can be found on our “links” page on the main site.
- Big D Cruisers is kicking around the idea of having a Cruiser Expo next spring.
That’s about all I can recall right now. If anyone else has anything to add to the minutes, please respond!
