  • Upcoming events for the year were discussed. Please see a list on the website at http://www.caprockcruisers.com We will be hosting the Panhandle Council of Car Club’s 1st Saturday Cruise Night in July. We will set up rear deck displays and show off what we can do with our cars! So put your thinking caps on and start planning! It will be good practice for even bigger events and shows to come for the Caprock Cruisers! We also talked about the Cruise the Rockies event coming up this summer. Several of us are making plans now for accommodations and travel routes. Get your reservations early! John brought up the fact we needed to visit the towns of our out-of-town members who usually drive to Amarillo for club meetings. Our first stop will be our regular meeting next month in Dumas, where Butch and Jackie live.
  • Emily brought up the possibility of having a small show and procuring sponsorships for trophies from local businesses. Paul was handy at giving us tips and information on how to get businesses to sponsor the club. Cathy brought up the idea of having specialized trophies made to represent the club. :) Emily also spoke to us about taking part in charity events such as a food drive for a worthy cause like the Ronald McDonald House where Jackie W.’s mother volunteers or homeless shelters.
  • MS Walk. Register for the Amarillo MS Walk! As you know, members and friends of our club have had themselves, family or friends affected by Multiple Sclerosis. So this year, Caprock Cruisers will be having a team participating in the MS Walk on Saturday, April 14, 2007, at John Stiff Park 9:30 a.m. We will be supporting those we care about, as well as programs, research and services sponsored by the National MS Society. FMI please contact Emily, who has all the details on what to do. Our goal as a club is to donate at least $100.00 To make a donation please see our MS Walk page.
  • Postcards and calendars. Emily printed up postcards with club info and current events and passed out to members so that they can be placed on PT Cruisers we spy while we’re out and about. Dale provided members with pocket calendars with club information that can also be passed out.
  • Decals. Emily has been checking into prices on decals, with various results. Les brought up the fact that Texas Signs has been doing the decals and such for the city, and they may like to do our decals for us as well, so we are checking into the possibility of using this local source. We will try to get this done w/o depleting the treasury. :)
  • 50/50 drawing was held. John bought a flag and donated it as an additional prize. Cathy won!

Cruises:

  • This Friday we will start our “Drive to be Seen” campaign with a cruise to Sonic on Hillside and Western for tater tots and talk at 6:30 p.m. :) We talked about the places we could go and cruise so that people will see us and become more aware of and interested in Caprock Cruisers.
  • We will be starting our second cruise weekends again this month. This time, we will start on Saturday, March 24 with a cruise to Groom to see the 2nd largest cross in this hemisphere. Click here for a preview. Then we will be going to the Red River Steakhouse in McLean for supper. http://www.mockturtlepress.com/texas/drive66east.html

Meeting Minutes–November 11, 2006

Posted by desperatewriter on November 11, 2006

We met at Gene Messer at 5:30 p.m.

Attending:

  • Emily and Shelby Kohn
  • Maxenne and Dale Redmon
  • Les and Joanne Holman
  • Jackie Watkins
  • Cathy Sutton
  • John and April Redmon

Emily has done a lot of research for us and found a GREAT deal on car flags for the club. The membership found the details of the set up fee and price thereafter per flag agreeable, and decided on the colorful logo for the flags because it will be more visible at events and in motion. More details will be announced after the flags arrive. April found a deal agreeable to the membership on full-color club decals we can put on our vehicles to identify members of Caprock Cruisers. So we have these two items to look forward to. Thanks, Emily, for all your hard work.

Cathy and Cindy came together on the details of our Christmas Party. The details are listed below, and it looks like a lot of fun.

Caprock Cruisers will be taking part in the Center City Christmas Light Parade again this year. Again, all the details are listed below, as well as on our website.

You might notice that we have a new name for our website! We had trouble getting the old domain name transferred, so we had to go with another choice. Please change your bookmarks to http://www.caprockcruisers.com

We also discussed some of the future cruises we can take when it starts looking light later in the day. We are Cruisers, we need to take actual cruises and get to know our own area better! It would be nice to get a calendar down in January, if we could, so we could post the dates on the website, and on the back of our upcoming “You’ve Been Seen” postcards!

Please remember Joanne Holman in your prayers, because she had surgery on Monday the 13th.

After the meeting, we went to eat at Barnaby’s Beanery.

Now, here are the details on the Parade and the Christmas Party.

2006 Holidays in the City Electric Light Parade 2006

“Lighting the Way Downtown”

Friday, December 1, 2006

Polk Street, from 11th to 6th to City Hall. The parade route starts at 11th and Polk Street, continues north on Polk to Sixth Avenue. Then it turns east to Buchanan Street and feeds into the City Hall parking lot so people can enjoy the lighting ceremony at the City Christmas Tree in front of the Civic Center. The Eastridge Fourth-grade Choir will perform at the ceremony.

Parade begins at 6:00 p.m

Cruisers need to be in their assigned place by 5:00 p.m. (Further details to come)

Cars need to be decorated with lights to participate. No live Santas, please. Center City will have a special visit from Santa who promises a surprise for the children. Santa will be available after the tree lighting to talk to the children. No throwing of candy, for safety’s sake. Be sure to dress warmly, and you may even want to bring a thermos of coffee or hot chocolate. (But remember–there are no bathrooms available along the route.) At the time of the parade, we will decide if we want to go somewhere to have coffee and dessert afterward.

Participating so far:

Emily and Shelby Kohn with Batmobile

  • Maxenne & Dale Redmon
  • Les & Joanne Holman
  • Mike & Jane Bryan
  • Mike & Cindy Girty
  • David Freeman
  • Felicia Allred
  • Iva Vorheis
  • John & April Redmon w/Dodger

We met at Gene Messer on Georgia. Decorations and route details were discussed for the Tri-State Fair Parade. Details Below. Jane Bryan let us know about Fritch’s Howdy Neighbor Day parade and car show, which we will be taking part in. PLEASE e-mail us to let us know how many will be participating. Details are below for this, too! After the meeting, we went to Sonic on Tascosa Road, and though the weather wasn’t perfect, we had a good time!

2006 Tri-State Fair Parade

The parade will be held on Saturday September 16, 2006 in downtown Amarillo. This years theme is “A Salute to Tri-State Firefighters. ” The parade begins at 10, and we need to be in our spot by at least 9:00 a.m. So this means meeting between 8:15 and 8:30 at the parking lot at Furr’s on Georgia to cruise toward Polk. Our parade # is 70, and when we get downtown, we will be positioned in the parking lot at 15th and Polk (next to the Senior Center, opposite the Methodist Church.)

SEPTEMBER 30, 2006

“Howdy Neighbor Day”

Fritch, Texas

From Jane–

An annual event that starts with a parade down main street and then everyone ends up at the city park — there are booths, games, a talent show and car show.

The car show will be set up in an area in the park and roped off in a way that everyone can see each car, but viewer may not pass the ropes, Unlike the rest of town, the city park does have plenty of trees! So if the weather cooperates it should be a nice day out there. The theme this year is “Wild Wild West”. When I signed us up – they were really excited that we wanted to participate in the parade and car show. The parade begins at 10 a.m. and we must sign in before 9:30 — it says, “if you are late you may be positioned after the horses.”
There will be judges for the parade for the top three entries according to:

1.) aesthetics – visual appeal/ interest / uniqueness

2.) Spirit – Howdy Neighbor attitude, crowd interaction

3.) Theme – How does the entry reflect “The Old West?”

I hope everyone can plan to attend! I will let you know any other information I come up with.

Thanks! Jane

So, we will meet at Region 16 at 8:15 a.m. that morning and leave at 8:30 to cruise to Fritch, where we’ll meet Mike and Jane.
