We met at Region 16. John was excited to show off Phantom Cruiser’s new Lambo100_1406.jpg hinges!

We took off for Groom, and visited the Cross, and the various sculptures surrounding it that represent the stations of the Cross. More information about this landmark can be found at http://www.crossministries.net We all took lots of pictures, too. They can be seen by clicking on the Flickr photo box in the sidebar.

100_1477.jpgAfter we visited the Cross, we cruised to McLean, down part of old Route 66 to the Red River Steakhouse. The staff there was nice and the food was good, the company even better!phillips66gasstationsdelberttrewpc.jpg

On the way out, we cruised by the very first Phillips 66 service station. A teeny tiny treasure along the old Mother Road. A bio can be found here.

Jackie and Butch have been working really hard on our upcoming visit to Dumas’s Sonic Drive- in, coming up on April 14. This is our regular meeting day. We’ll meet at Region 16 at 5:00 p.m. then cruise to Dumas. We’ll stop at the tourist Info center just on the inside of town, and place our flags on our cars. (You did get yours, didn’t you?) Then we’ll follow Butch and Jackie to Sonic, where we’re sure to meet a lot of locals who bring their cars too. Don’t forget to bring your chairs, and your jackets, just in case! We’ll also be having a 50/50 drawing for some special prizes.

Our club stickers are underway as well, and available for purchase. Thanks to Emily and Les for arranging this with The Vinyl Garage.

Shamrock, March 17, 2007

Posted by desperatewriter on March 20, 2007

Attending:

  • Mike and Jane Bryan
  • Dale Redmon
  • Emily Kohn
  • David Freeman
  • April Redmon
  • PT from the Thunderbird Club

What a GREAT day! We met at the Tourist Bureau at 8:00 a.m., and traveled with the High Plains Thunderbird Club to Shamrock for the annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

550.gifOnce we got to Shamrock, as usual with parades, it was hurry up and wait. The crowd was great, and very, very green! Next year, we MUST bring candy. The children are scary
if you aren’t throwing candy.

After the parade, we went to the school for Irish Stew and Cornbread…but the bikers got there first. And considering we were number 82…well, they were pretty much out of food when we got there. Dale braved eating what was left, but the rest of us hit an UNBELIEVABLY crowded McDonald’s and had a burger and fries.

Then Mike and Jane and Dale headed home, and Emily, David and April strolled around town and took in a few shops and vendors before we went to watch the lawnmower races. We can now say we’ve been there and done that.

The Thunderbirds were really great fun to travel with, and very nice. They invited us to stop and eat with them at the Red River Steakhouse, but by then, we were ready to head home.

The Thunderbirds have arranged a deal with the Tascosa Drive-in Theater, and we are invited to join them sometime this spring or summer to go to the movies. As long as we have at least 20 cars combined, we can get in for 5 dollars each. They will even let the clubs have the pick of the lot! So there’s another thing to look forward to.

__________________________

On Friday night, the 16th, we met at Sonic for Tots and Talk…but the wind made it mighty chilly, so we went to the Home Plate Diner. We had a nice visit there, despite an unfriendly employee.

__________________________

On another note– if you see the photobar on the left, or the photobar on the website, we have a Flickr account! As part of my (April’s) sponsorship of the club, I bought a Pro account, so we have unlimited uploads. I’ve uploaded nearly all of the club pictures so far. And have created sets for all the Cruisers that have a particular theme. So if you have some photos you want uploaded, just send them my way. Caprock Cruiser members can save photos from this site, and even send off for prints if we want. So hopefully, the club will find this a useful feature.

__________________________

We’ll see you at 2:00 P.M. this Saturday at Region 16 for our cruise to Groom and then McLean. Hope you can amake it!
